Show & Tell: Mirror Before & After

As some of you remember, I got this gold mirror at a garage sale for $5.00. I wasn't really digging the 70's gold finish, so I spray painted the mirror with some white enamel paint. The paint had a built in primer so I didn't have to bother with that step. It took about three coats, but it looks pretty good! I'm having some problems figuring out where I want to put it, but it looks okay in my bedroom for the time being.

Oh...and this particular frame/mirror pops up on Pinterest at least once a day. I've seen it as a prop for wedding pictures, baby pictures, a chalk board, bathroom mirror and a jewelry holder. This mirror might see another makeover in its future!

Gone Junkin': Retro Kitchen Finds

So, I finally got a job! I know. It only took around 85 applications and a year, but I'm officially employed. However, since I want to devote most of my evenings to loving my daughter (which I quite miss not spending all day with) and I have to get up at 5:30 to commute, that doesn't leave much time for blogging or crafting. So, sorry for the absence over the past week or so. But a girls got to have fun too, so I will definitely keep blogging!

Any who. Those wonderful junk occasional sales were going on again, and I snatched up some really cool retro red kitchen items. I have been searching for something cool to put kitchen utensils in, and I finally found a cool enamel pot with a red trim. I also found this neat retro kitchen dispenser thing and a fun white napkin holder.

You'll also see that I finally found a purpose for those blue mason jars I picked up (Although to be honest, I think I might switch it to something else I had in mind) and I did a little art for above the stove (which didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it, but it will be good for the time being) I cut those letters from vinyl from hand, but I do see a silhouette in my future. :) Tutorial to come on how to cut them with an Exacto knife though.

My family has a tradition of buying a Betty Crocker cookbook for your daughter. My mom thought it would be fun to do a twist and got me one that was published in the 50's. It has a whole section on being a "proper wife" and gives suggestions about looking good while cooking (dress, heels and make up) and greeting your husband and hosting his work bosses.

Idea Thief: No Sew Roller Shades

I love this tutorial on how to cover roller shades with fabric. It's so simple; I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner!

I hadn't discovered how amazing a hot glue gun was until a few years ago and now I love it! I remember my mom using it as a kid. For some reason I kinda thought it was artsy fartsy. Now I realize its a nice way to avoid sewing. (Especially when you're sewing room is like a 100 degrees since it's a sun room on the second floor!)

So if you don't sew...don't fret! You can still use fabric!

Idea Thief: DIY Mod Podge

Hi There!

As you know by some of the projects I post, I love me some Mod Podge. I use it all the time. However, Mod Podge can be spendy, especially if you become addicted to it. Life in Rehab has a DIY recipe. It's so easy, and it's the perfect time of the year to stock up! It's just 1 part White school glue to 1 part water. So basically get a bottle of Elmer's, squirt into jar, fill the glue bottle with water, squirt water into jar. Shake it up and you've got homemade Mod Podge!

Hi There!

Me and other crafty gals will have a booth in the commercial building at the Boone County Fair tomorrow (Thursday), Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The name of our booth is the "Crafty Chics' Co-Op." (Clever, huh?)

In addition to my usual baby accessories, I will have two really awesome windows for sale. They are probably going to go fast, so make sure you head to the fair when you get a chance! We will also have some really cool felt food and other baby items in our booth!



What's that yellow you say? Well it's colored chalkboard paint!



Both will come with some colored chalk too.

Show & Tell: Ladder Quilt Rack

Hi There!

I had to share a quick project I did this weekend. I found two old wooden ladders on the side of the road a few weeks ago. I cleaned them up really good. I decided to use one for our living room blankets. I had to secure the ladder to the wall to avoid my daughter tipping it over (I used an eye bolt and a zip tie) I learned a lesson hard though; I don't own a ladder and decided to balance on the coffee table. Of course it tipped over, and I crashed down with drill in hand. I very quickly got a grapefruit size bruise on my leg. Man....the hazards of DIY.

I think it looks pretty good. It will look even better when I get into a house with a different color on the walls.





Oh and a fun piece of news, I finally got patio furniture!!!!!! I absolutely love it. It's nothing fancy, but it's so perfect for us. Makes me want to have a party.
