Hi Everyone!

In the land of craft blogging, it seems to be popular this week to recap 2011. I am pretty excited with what I got done in 2011 and look forward to 2012.

Here are some of my favorite projects from the last year!

1. Chevron Bookcase.

This project was one of my favorite for several reasons. I love chevron designs and couldn't want to incorporate them into my house. I also was excited to give my great-grandmother's bookcase a face lift.

 2. $2.00 Solar Jars

This was the second most popular post of 2011. I'm excited to tell you that the while the colors as faded, the solar lights are still going strong.

3. Candy Corn Dress

This was my first attempt at making clothes and it didn't turn out too terribly. I just wish she could wear it year round!

4. Moo Card Holder

Believe it or not, this post was the most popular of 2011 with over 4,000 views on the blog and another couple thousand on Scribd and a couple more thousand on Flickr. Being featured on One Pretty Thing didn't hurt either.

5. Nail String Art

This was a recent project I did with my craft club and apparently it must also be pretty popular. I'm still looking for the perfect place to hang my ode to South Dakota!

6. Dining Room Chairs

I love refinishing furniture and I was extra excited this project was so fast and cheap. Plus, it's a sure lot better than the card table I had!

7. Silhouette Projects

Of course I love these projects because I've been oogling the Silhouette for a year!

8. Christmas Tree

I finally got a new tree and some burlap garland. I loved the garland and will be using it again next year!

9. Roller Shades

After planning the project since July, I finally got to put them up this December. My mother-in-law is just happy that I don't have fabric remnants nailed to the windows anymore!

10. Wreaths

Pinterest has created a few obsessions for me: burlap, blue Bell mason jars, bunk beds and wreaths.

Show & Tell: Pillowcase Dresses

Hello!

I decided to spend a couple of hours tonight and make my daughter a few dresses out of some cute fabric I found this weekend.

I tried a new method where you do elastic instead of all ribbon. The first one I made was a big long, but I figure she'll grow into it.  (She was really thrilled to be a model....)

I made two dresses out of my second fabric. I used a onesie we had for the top and did a skirt with the rest of the fabric...then I did another "pillowcase" dress. I might jazz up this first one with some green ribbon around the waist if I find some I like.

 

Not everything turns out nice...that's for sure. I thought I would try to make my daughter a shirt out of the scraps from the first dress. That didn't work so good...then I decided to turn that into a dress for her doll....and that didn't really work either. Oh well. We will make it work.

 

Kinda a weird kimono look.

DIY Sunday: Pinterest Projects

Hello Everyone!

I took a little time this holiday weekend to try a few project I had seen on Pinterest.

I have had these two canvases for about 3 years. They have been done and redone several times. I think I finally have them as I want them.

The first time I did them I put a bunch of circle scrapbook paper on them. It wasn't that great. 

 

The second time I did them, I hand cut vinyl (I didn't have a Silhouette yet) and it looked kinda odd with the two different size canvases. I still like the phrase, and I'm going to put it somewhere in my house. (Even though we're getting Silhouette vinyl-ed out in this house!)

So, here is the final result. Two canvases got split apart from one another. One went upstairs for a clock in my bathroom, and the other got some new prettier vinyl from the Silhouette for the kitchen.

 

This is my new kitchen art! I used a font called "Saloon" from Dafonts. Here is the Pinterest inspiration.

Here is my new clock. It was the first time I used a clock piece, but it was pretty easy to use. I'll probably eventually spray paint the hands so they aren't gold, but it works for now. Here is the Pinterest inspiration.

 

This is the clock with another Pinterest project. The toliet paper flower is kinda spray painted yellow...it didn't work great, so I might go back over it with some acrylic paint.
